For sewage treatment plant and septic tank installations in Surrey, Mantair provides with a complete design, installation and commissioning service.

Throughout rural areas of Surrey many property are not serviced by “mains drainage” for the disposal of waste water. As leading independent installers of sewage treatment plants and septic tanks, Mantair is ideally placed to provide Surrey home and business owners with a sewage treatment system to meet their budget and site requirements, or provide the expertise required for solving septic tank problems.

Case Study – Guildford, Surrey.

We were approached by the owner of a small business park in Surrey regarding a broken sewage treatment plant and the problems being experienced with the foul drainage system serving the park.

After lengthy discussions with the client it was apparent that the existing sewage treatment plant had failed and was causing pollution in a nearby watercourse. Mantair engineers recommended a site inspection be carried out to determine the cause for the sewage treatment plant failing.

Survey & Design

On inspecting the existing sewage treatment plant Mantair engineers identified that the plant incorporated a biological filter. The biological filter is designed to promote the growth of aerobic micro-organisms which ‘treat’ the sewage. After emptying the sewage treatment plant it was evident that the biological filter had collapsed, and as a result, no treatment was occurring within the tank.

Recommendations

It was decided to replace the failed sewage treatment plant with a new treatment system, which would be located in a more discreet area of the park.

Taking into account all of the site requirements, Mantair engineers recommended the installation a 24PE Tricel sewage treatment plant with remote blower housing at this Surrey location.

As part of the project Mantair liaised with the Environment Agency and the local Building Control Department to obtain the relevant approvals for the installation.

Installation

Prior to any ancillary works commencing Mantair engineers scanned the proposed location of the new sewage treatment plant and areas where any excavations were taking place to ensure that no underground services were present.

The scope of the installation works included:
  • Exposing the existing foul drainage pipe work and diverting to the location of the new sewage treatment plant;
  • Installation of the sewage treatment plant in a suitably sized excavation, including for a concrete base and backfill;
  • Provision of an RCD protected power supply to the sewage treatment plant blower housing;
  • Installation of a new 110mm diameter discharge drain to the boundary ditch;
  • De-commissioning and filling-in of the failed sewage treatment plant;
  • Backfilling all excavations and leaving the area neat and tidy.

Commissioning

On completion of the ancillary works Mantair commissioned the new sewage treatment plant, including setting of air valves, checking all pipe work joints and viewing the discharge into the final discharge chamber.

We removed all machinery from site and left the grounds in a neat and tidy manner.  We revisited this Surrey location a month after the completed installation to dress the excavation area where the ground had sunk.
